Richard Gilliland - Managing Partner

Richard is Managing Partner and founded the firm in 1988 after qualifing with a medium-sized accountancy practice and following a period with an international accountancy practice.

Since founding the business, he has overseen a period of consistent and considerable growth in the practice.

Richard has extensive experience within property, leisure and enterprenurial sectors and in addition, has a number of Board appointments within successful, privately-owned Scottish companies.

Alan Woods

Alan graduated from Glasgow University with an honours degree in economics and politics before training as a Chartered Accountant with a medium-sized, Glasgow-based firm of accountants.

After qualifying, Alan specialised in corporate tax with a 'Big 4' firm before joining Gilliland & Company in 1992.

Alan services clients across a wide range of businesses including property, IT, professional practices, PR, and the licensed trade.

Alan Blue

Alan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1981 and joined Gilliland & Company as a partner in 2002. Alan looks after a wide range of owner-managed clients in a variety of industry sectors including property, construction, retail and service industries.

Having trained with a medium-sized firm of accountants Alan then gained a broad tax knowledge specialising with one of the 'Big 4' firms before moving to utilise this knowledge in a general practice environment.

He has advised on all aspects of business from start-up situations to disposals and management buy-outs.

Simon Murrison

Simon graduated from Heriot-Watt University in 1994 with a degree in Accountancy & Finance.

Since qualifying in 1997 as a Chartered Accountant with a medium sized accountancy practice, Simon has spent his time specialising in the owner managed, small to medium sized sector of the market with a focus on helping his clients both understand and grow their businesses.

Simon joined the firm in 2011 from a large national practice bringing with him a wealth of experience dealing with all types of business but with a particular strength in getting to know client's aspirations and helping them achieve them.

Bruce Wilson

Bruce left the Inland Revenue, now HMRC, as an Inspector of Taxes in 1986 and has worked in the profession ever since. He spent his last 20 years before joining the firm as a Tax Partner at one of the largest independent firms in Scotland. He brings his extensive experience gained both in HMRC and the profession as a tax specialist to the firm covering not only tax compliance and tax investigations at all levels but also advanced tax planning covering tax efficient profit extraction as well as wealth and estate planning and protection both onshore and offshore for companies, the self-employed and individuals.

Associate Profiles

Susan Holland

Susan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1995 and joined Gilliland & Company in 2001. Susan manages a portfolio with a variety of owner managed companies, carrying out the preparation of year end accounts and audits, together with assisting in business advisory services, preparing management accounts, financial projections and business plans.

She has particular experience of investment companies,financial services, pensions and charities. Susan was appointed an Associate of the practice in early 2004.

Lorraine Kennedy

Lorraine graduated from Strathclyde University in 1993. She started with Gilliland & Company in February 1998 as a trainee and became ACCA qualified in February 2001 after spending one year with a similar sized practice in the Manchester area. Lorraine specialises in servicing a number of clients in the construction, computing, service and retail sectors. She has extensive IT experience and heads up the firm's IT Servicing Department with partner, Alan Blue.

Lorraine was appointed an Associate of the firm in early 2004.
